ALM-IO: ECU Module for I/O Expansion in Industrial CAN-BUS Networks
ALM-IO is a compact ECU designed to extend inputs and outputs within CAN-BUS-based architectures. Engineered for industrial environments and high-duty mobile applications, it combines flexible I/O configuration, high processing power, and a fully rugged, waterproof design, ensuring reliability even under extreme conditions.

Architecture and Performance
The module is based on a high-performance Cortex-M7 CPU, capable of handling fast processing and real-time communication.
This enables efficient integration into distributed systems, maintaining low response times and high responsiveness in signal management.
Maximum I/O Flexibility
ALM-IO is designed to adapt to multiple application scenarios thanks to an extremely versatile I/O configuration:
Up to 18 total inputs:
universal inputs (4–20 mA, 0–40 V, 0–5 V, digital LS/HS)
wide-range analog inputs
digital inputs with counter function
4 high-side outputs up to 2A per channel (6A total)
1 dedicated output for sensor power supply (up to 500 mA, optional regulated 5V)
Advanced CAN Communication
The module stands out as an intelligent node within the CAN network: it can acquire signals from analog and digital sensors, control actuators through protected outputs, communicate in real time with the main control unit, and be configured and updated via CAN.
It integrates a CAN 2.0B port compliant with ISO 11898, supporting standard (11-bit) and extended (29-bit) frames with speeds up to 1 Mbit/s.
It is compatible with the CANopen protocol (DS401) and EDS files (DS306), facilitating integration into existing systems and significantly reducing development time.
Safety, Robustness, and Operational Efficiency
ALM-IO is designed to ensure operational continuity even in critical conditions, thanks to a complete system of integrated protections, including reverse polarity protection, output short-circuit protection, and input overvoltage and overcurrent protection.
This is combined with a robust design: the PC ABS V0 enclosure ensures high mechanical resistance, while the fully waterproof and rugged structure makes the module ideal for outdoor installations and machinery exposed to dust, water, vibrations, and extreme temperatures.
ALM-IO operates within a temperature range from -40°C to +85°C.
From an energy standpoint, ALM-IO operates with a 9–36 VDC power supply, making it compatible with both 12V and 24V systems, and features extremely low standby consumption (50 mA @ 24V), contributing to overall system efficiency.
Applications in Industrial and Special Vehicles
In industrial and special vehicles, ALM-IO enables decentralized intelligence and simplifies electronic architecture. It is particularly effective in waste collection vehicles, aerial platforms, logistics vehicles, and special-purpose vehicles.
The module allows control of compactors, lifters, stabilizers, and opening/closing systems, as well as acquisition of signals from distributed sensors (pressure, temperature, position, limit switches), reducing wiring complexity and improving signal reliability.
Integration of ALM-IO translates into tangible operational benefits:
reduced installation costs
increased system reliability
simplified maintenance and diagnostics
easy scalability over time, with centralized communication via CAN-BUS
